"Monsters’ rights. Monsters’ rights." Elspeth punctuated her yelling with wild waves of a placard with the same phrase inscribed on it. She shoved her furry lion tail out of the way as she marched down Main Street.

“Why now? We’re so close to Christmas. Only a few days to go. Couldn’t she have just kept quiet?” Winifred moaned. “Sales are good, and now she’ll scare away Edgar’s customers. Especially with those furry costumes.”

“What’s that music?” Lila squinted at the protest march. “Is Colin wearing a small radio strapped to his back?”

“We are the champions.”

“Say what?” Lila stared at the banshee. “We’re watching a protest march on monsters’ rights, and you want to sing?"

"No. That's the song coming out of Colin’s radio."

"Dorothy and Olive are marching in the back." Xandie couldn't help but feel this was all part of an Elspeth distract-with-total-mayhem plan.

"And there's a few of her poker buddies as well." Winifred sniffed. "She probably blackmailed them with clearing their poker debt, so they’d march."

"And the suits? Looks like Elspeth robbed a furry convention." Holly shivered. "That's an image I don't want in my head."

"What did I miss? Do we have refreshments to go with our entertainment?" Edgar rushed across the road. He came to a panting stop next to Xandie and righted his lopsided pith helmet.

"No refreshments. Just Elspeth and her blackmailed cronies, protesting for monsters’ rights."

Edgar scoffed at Xandie's explanation. "Please, this little demonstration could all be part of an evil plan to cause mass mayhem."

"Definitely part of something," Xandie agreed. She wondered if her great uncle had any hunter gossip. "How's the pop-up hunter shop going?"

Sighing, Edgar removed his pith helmet and rubbed his gray, combed-back hair before replacing it. "It was such a good idea. But I may have over capitalized. There was a big rush of customers at the beginning, but they're starting to trickle off now." He brightened. "I could have a going out of business sale and pretend to lower prices. That's a great idea."

"I would have thought with all the hunters in town, you’d do a roaring trade."

"The initial rush was confidence boosting. But then it settled down. I think some of the hunters have given up and are just staying in town to see who wins, Humboldt or Freedom."

"What about that One-Shot Durrant? He looks like he's nipping at their heels."

"He’d like to be number one but doesn't have the creativity and talent to carry it off.” Ophelia Freedom sashayed up next to Edgar. She clicked her fingers and pointed at the protest march. "This will be great background on the crazies of Point Muse.

"I'd like to object, but you aren't wrong." Lila shrugged and squealed. "How cute. Colin has earmuffs."

Elspeth’s pug minion looked depressed. Everything about him drooped. Looked like Elspeth’s poker cronies weren't the only ones blackmailed into marching. Xandie made a mental note to feed some extra cakes to the poor pug.

Striding up to Ophelia, Elspeth waved her sign in the hunter’s face. "Monsters’ rights. Monsters’ rights," the wicked
